Second Annual Summer Barbeque

We have grown so much since we started. Totaling over 450 members of pre-meds, medical students, residents, and attendings, it was time to celeberate again. Our second annual BBQ was a great way to meet the incoming medical students and give a well deserved break to those who just finished school and are embarking on their new journey.

What I Wish I Knew Before Medical School

The path to medical school can be tough, and confusing. Thankfully, your not alone. The Jewish Physicians Network offers many resources to help pre-med students with their journey. On May 1st we hosted our first ever pre-med event connecting pre-med students to medical students and residents spanning 8 different medical schools. We partnered with Chai Urgent Care and Integrated Medical Health to provide a wonderful evening while unveiling our new clinical experience program.

Ever wondered about the logistics of how to work in the hospital on Shabbos? So did we! Rabbi Dr. Apfel took the time to share with us how to practically approach keeping Shabbos in a hospital setting while on call. Unfortunately, this incredible talk, like all good things had to come to an end. Look out for part two, where we continue our conversation with Rabbi Dr. Apfel on the intricacies of Shabbos observance in the hospital.

Approaching Residency from Halacha

One of the core challenges Jewish physicians face is Shabbos and residency. The JPN has set out from it's inception to publicly address these issues. This milestone talk was the one of the first steps we took in addressing the matter. Rabbi Willig well known as the Rabbi of physicians graciously offered his time to us to explain how to approach residencies from a Halachic standpoint
