Who We Are

The Jewish Physicians Network (JPN) is a national network designed to support and educate Jewish medical students, residents and attending physicians by providing a wide array of resources, and opportunities.

Established in April 2021 by Marc Ganz and Menachem Jacobs (MD/MPH candidates, SUNY Downstate), the JPN stemmed from a shared personal interest in community support. Having started their medical education at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, they quickly noticed the lack of support for physicians and trainees especially in the Jewish community. In addition, they shared a common interest in addressing the practical application of Jewish medical ethics as it relates to the practice of medicine.

With an aim to make a greater impact, the JPN expanded over time to service the broader medical community – providing readily accessible medical halachic resources from world-renowned Rabbanim to help support medical students and residents as they navigate the halachic complexities that inevitably arise throughout one’s training. In addition to these resources, the JPN also provides numerous networking opportunities, support groups and speaker events for members, fostering an environment of support and collaboration. What started as a small passion-project has quickly grown to a network of thousands of members and continues to expand nationwide.

Meet the Team

  • Marc Ganz

    CEO; CO-FOUNDER

Marc is a fourth-year MD candidate at SUNY Downstate pursuing a career in Urology. Marc holds a Master's in Public Health in Epidemiology and is currently working towards his MBA while conducting research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Marc's dedication extends beyond his medical and academic pursuits. With a strong passion for public health and community engagement, he co-founded the Jewish Physicians Network. This initiative reflects his desire to unite Jewish physicians, creating a platform for networking, advocacy, and the sharing of valuable resources tailored to the needs of the Orthodox Jewish physician community.

  • Menachem Jacobs

Menachem is a fourth-year MD/MPH student at SUNY Downstate pursuing a career in internal medicine. Menachem received rabbinical ordination from the Rabbinical College of America, where his interest in medical halacha and community service sparked an interest in pursuing a medical career.

When he's not studying, training in the hospital, or attending JPN meetings, Menachem loves spending quality time with family, cooking, and reading. He co-founded JPN to connect Jewish medical professionals and trainees to inspire one another in Torah, medicine, and living life well.

PAST EVENTS

  • This is where it all started. A summer Siyum BBQ for the founding members of the JPN. Our first live event to set the tone for future events and guide our organization to grow.

  • One of the core challenges Jewish physicians face is Shabbos and residency. The JPN has set out from it's inception to publicly address these issues. This milestone talk was the one of the first steps we took in addressing the matter. Rabbi Willig well known as the Rabbi of physicians graciously offered his time to us to explain how to approach residencies from a Halachic standpoint

  • Our first ever night of networking, centered around spiritual growth while pursuing a career as a physician. We were proud to partner with the Beis Medrash Govoah for Medical Halacha to provide this sponsored event for all JPN members to attend free of charge to hear from world renowned physicians while networking with colleagues.

  • An enlightening talk on end-of-life care by Rav Asher Weiss, the global authority on medical Halacha. In partnership with the Beis Medrash for Medical Halacha, New York Medical College, and Touro University, this talk offered CME credit for those who attended and shed some much needed light on how to approach end-of-life care as a Jewish physician.

  • Whether a student, resident, or attending you work hard. That's why the JPN offers social support events like our Pre-Channuka Brunch. Our live events are always a great excuse to get out of the house and have a good time with colleagues in the same boat as you. As always you can expect photo ops, free merch, and exquisite food. Make sure to join the next time we host!

  • The path to medical school can be tough, and confusing. Thankfully, your not alone. The Jewish Physicians Network offers many resources to help pre-med students with their journey. On May 1st we hosted our first ever pre-med event connecting pre-med students to medical students and residents spanning 8 different medical schools. We partnered with Chai Urgent Care and Integrated Medical Health to provide a wonderful evening while unveiling our new clinical experience program.

  • We have grown so much since we started. Totaling over 450 members of pre-meds, medical students, residents, and attendings, it was time to celeberate again. Our second annual BBQ was a great way to meet the incoming medical students and give a well deserved break to those who just finished school and are embarking on their new journey.

  • Our second annual winter event one again centered around spiritual growth while pursuing a career as a physician. We were proud to partner with the Beis Medrash Govoah for Medical Halacha to provide this sponsored event for all JPN members to attend free of charge to hear from renowned physicians. Our speakers included Rabbi Sprung, Dr. Geisler, Dr. Friedman of Chemed, Dr. Knoll of JOWMA and Dr. Silverman of NYMC.
